Animal Cops: Miami - WTF?

Published by afragmin at 9:15 pm under Educational Programming, Hall of Shame Edit This

I love Animal Planet. I think that much is obvious by how much I post about its programming. I love their crazy “educational” programs, and their “reality” shows are hilariously heavy-handed and insane.

One of my favorite shows is the whole  series they have of “Animal Cops” - i.e., basically, shows about various animal rescue workers in different cities in the country. The first two shows, taking place in New York and Detroit, were vicious but accurate portrayals of horrible conditions animals face. But what really made the shows work for me was the obvious love and concern the workers had for the animals, and how obvious it was that the people dealing with the animals were well-educated and knew their  stuff.

Animal Cops: Miami, and Animal Cops: Houston, are the exact opposite of those two shows. Not only are the animal workers in those shows completely incompetent, but more often than not they complain on and on about how hot it is or how awful the conditions are.  I’m not sure anyone in the shows are ever actually depicted as actually caring about the animals themselves.

Honestly, the entire camera crew of Meerkat Manor seems more qualified to be animal health  workers than the incompetents on Animal Cops.
